Landmark Showcase: Haunted Schoolhouse And Laboratory

The Haunted Schoolhouse and Laboratory in Akron, Ohio, are iconic haunted attractions that have been spooking visitors since 1974. Story of the week: Another Akron Shooting: Four Hurt, Including Child, at Family Gathering

The Akron Police Department is seeking the public's assistance regarding a shooting that occurred Saturday evening, resulting in injuries to three adults and one child.

The incident took place around 7:41 p.m. in the 800 block of Morningview Avenue. According to police, the victims include a 4-year-old child and three adults, whose ages range from 33 to 52 years old. The current conditions of the victims have not been disclosed.

Authorities are actively following up on leads to determine the events leading up to the shooting. At this time, no further information has been released, and it remains unclear if any suspects are in custody.

Akron City Councilwoman Sharon Connor, who resides across the street from the scene recounted that earlier in the day, she and her husband were enjoying the sound of children playing in the area. A few hours later, they heard people shouting, "call 911."

"It was a family gathering, the family has gathered there for at least 10 years, always on the Saturday of Fourth of July weekend for a family picnic,” said Connor. She emphasized that gun violence is not just an issue in Akron but a nationwide problem. "Gone are the days of fistfights; the minute you’re upset, you reach for your gun. So, we must address that," Connor added.

Bystanders at the scene witnessed multiple victims being carried out on stretchers to ambulances. Despite the severity of the incident, police have not provided details about the suspect but have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.

This shooting incident follows another tragic event in Akron just a month ago, on June 2, where a shooting in East Akron at Kelly and 8th Avenue resulted in one death and 28 injuries.
