Landmark Showcase: Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad

The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad is a historic railroad that operates through the Cuyahoga Valley National Park in Ohio, offering scenic train rides throughout Akron. Story of the week:

Akron Zips standout forward and Cleveland native Enrique Freeman has been selected by the Indiana Pacers with the No. 50 pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.

Freeman’s journey to the NBA is a remarkable story that highlights the culture of Akron. He joined Akron's basketball team as a walk-on in 2019 after starting at the university on an academic scholarship. Over the years, Freeman made immense leaps in his skill level eventually became the guy for the Zips' offense. In his senior season, he averaged 18.6 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game, shooting 58.4% from the field.

In Freemans senior year he was able to help lead Akron to MAC Tournament championships and NCAA Tournament appearances in 2024. Freeman earned the MAC Player of the Year and MAC Tournament MVP titles in 2024.

Freeman’s selection marks him as the first Akron player to be drafted into the NBA in nearly 40 years, and only the second in the modern two-round draft format.

Freeman will continue to represent Northeast Ohio proudly by bringing his high motor and elite rebounding skills to the Pacers and inspiring others to chase their dreams no matter how big.
