6/21-6/22: Its time to celebrate! Make sure to get in on the yearly Juneteenth celebration here in akron. There will be things such as delicious soul food, vendors selling things like books and t-shirts, and a concert where you can dance the night away. This event will be held Friday and Saturday all around the city.

6/22: The city of Akron is a melting pot consisting of cultures from all over the world! In honor of that, The Akron zoo will be hosting a multicultural day where you can have lots of fun and also get educated on some amazing cultures out there. This event will be held Saturday from 10-4pm at the Akron zoo.

Landmark Showcase: F.A Seiberling nature realm

The landmark of the week is The seiberling nature realm. The F.A. Seiberling Nature Realm is a beautiful park located in Akron, Ohio, that is part of the Summit Metro Parks system. The place was named after Frank A. Seiberling who was the co-founder of Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. The park is around 104 acres and features things such as woodlands, meadows, and ponds. Visitors can explore multiple trails, a visitor center with educational exhibits, and a beautiful garden area. The park also offers programs and events aimed at educating the public about local ecology and conservation efforts. F.A. Seiberling Nature Realm is a great place to enjoy a peaceful retreat where you can relax and do outdoor activities.

Akron is preparing for a significant heat wave expected to bring record-setting temperatures next week. The National Weather Service issued an Excessive Heat Watch from Monday, June 17, through Friday, June 21. Forecasts predict high temperatures in the 90s and heat index values above 100 degrees. Companies like First Energy are taking proactive measures to manage potential localized power outages caused by the extreme heat. First Energy suggested tips like checking air filters, drawing blinds, and setting fans counterclockwise. Cooling centers will be available for those without adequate cooling at home. This heat wave is expected to affect over 135 million people from Chicago to Philadelphia. As summer officially begins on June 20, Akron's companies and residents seem to have their work cut out for them to stay cool during these sizzling days.
