During the mid-20th century the library saw significant growth, leading to the creation of the Akron-Summit County Public Library system in 1969. A major renovation in 2004 modernized the main branch with expanded facilities and technology. Today the library serves as a community center with educational programs, cultural events, and technology classes. The library has remained dedicated to providing free and equal access to information and supporting lifelong learning for the wonderful residents of akron.
